EIB and Angelini Ventures’ Partnership Reaches €48.5 Million in Investments

Rome, 16 September 2026

  • New €17 million investment into MMI, a microsurgery robotics company, marks the third investment completed under the €150 million partnership in less than 12 months, following ADCytherix and Nuclidium
  • A further €20 million has been committed to two additional companies developing new approaches in oncology and rare diseases
  • Partnership remains on track to invest in 7-10 European companies, with approximately €100 million expected to be invested or committed by early 2027

The European Investment Bank (EIB) and Angelini Ventures, the venture capital firm of Angelini Industries, today announced a €17 million co-investment in MMI, which develops robotic solutions for microsurgery and super-microsurgery, including the Pisa-manufactured Symani system, equipped with the world's smallest articulated robotic instruments.

The transaction marks the third investment completed under the partners’ €150 million initiative in less than 12 months, highlighting the rapid deployment of capital to breakthrough European life sciences companies.

A further €20 million has been committed to two European life sciences companies focused respectively on oncology and rare diseases, with details to be announced following completion of the respective financings. This brings the amount already co-invested by the partnership to €48.5 million, rising to €68.5 million when the two committed investments are included.

With five investments either completed or committed, the EIB and Angelini Ventures are making strong progress towards their goal of backing 7 to 10 European companies under the €150 million facility, with approximately €100 million expected to be invested or committed by early 2027.

In less than a year, our partnership with the EIB has already resulted in investments in five European life sciences companies,” said Paolo Di Giorgio, CEO of Angelini Ventures. “What stands out is the breadth of innovation behind these companies, from breakthrough medical technologies to new therapeutic approaches. Our focus is on science and technology that can fundamentally change how diseases are treated or care is delivered, and on identifying the companies best positioned to turn that potential into successful businesses. The quality of the opportunities we continue to see makes us very excited about what this partnership can deliver next.”

Europe’s future competitiveness depends on its ability to turn scientific excellence into global success stories,” said EIB Vice-President Gelsomina Vigliotti. “Through our partnership with Angelini Ventures, we are combining capital, expertise and long-term vision to support Europe’s most promising healthcare innovators. By helping breakthrough technologies scale and reach patients faster, we are strengthening Europe’s innovation ecosystem while delivering tangible benefits for society.”

The EIB-Angelini Ventures agreement

The EIB and Angelini Ventures signed their €150 million co-investment partnership in December 2025, with each committing €75 million over six years to support 7–10 European companies developing innovative solutions across biotechnology, medtech and digital health.

The partnership is the first agreement of its kind between the EIB and a corporate venture capital investor in the healthcare sector.

The first companies backed through the initiative were ADCytherix, a French biopharmaceutical company developing antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs) for cancer, and Nuclidium, a clinical-stage radiopharmaceutical company developing copper-based radiotheranostics for the diagnosis and treatment of cancer. The EIB and Angelini Ventures co-led an extension of Nuclidium’s Series B financing. MMI, a medical technology company developing robotic systems for microsurgery, is the third investment completed under the partnership.

The initiative is aligned with TechEU, the EIB Group programme designed to support European innovation and technological leadership. Through TechEU, the EIB Group aims to invest €70 billion in equity, quasi-equity, loans and guarantees between 2025 and 2027, with the ambition of mobilising €250 billion in investment in the real economy.
